SF Bay Climate Tech: Sep 11 - Sep 18
Biomimicry Awards, a ride to end fossil fuels, decarbonizing the built environment, California's corporate accountability act, and more events this week
Hi friends,
California is leading the way again! Keep an eye on state legislators this month as the Climate Corporate Accountability Act (SB 253) comes up for a vote. The law would require companies with over $1B in revenue to report Scope 1, 2, and eventually Scope 3 emissions and go beyond the SEC’s proposed guidelines. Catherine Atkin from Carbon Accountable has a great post on the law and what you can do to help push it through! tl;dr: engage your California assemblymember (as State-level reps, calling actually does make a difference!) and show public support with #SB253
In the meantime, here are our picks for the week:
On Wednesday, head to Port Labs in Oakland for 🏢 Built Environment Round 2: Building a Sustainable Future with Urban Machine, Argyle Earth, and Salient Energy.
Friday, join the Biomimicry Institute at the Exploratorium for the 🏆 Ray of Hope Prize: Happy Hour on the Water featuring ten nature-inspired startups.
Also Friday, take to the streets for the 🚴♀️ Ride to End Fossil Fuels and bike from the car-free Great Highway at Judah to City Hall with music bikes and guest speakers
As always, scroll down for the full list of upcoming events.
Cheers,
Alec, Sonam, and the SF Climate Tech Team

Update - SB 253 passed out of the California Assembly with 49 votes on Monday and now heads to Governor Newsom’s desk!! Thanks so much for getting the word out. It’s been exciting to see how much momentum has built over the 2+ years since Carbon Accountable first approached Senator Wiener about running this bill as the climate tech sector and others have gotten engaged. The Chambers of Commerce and business lobby are turning their attention to the Governor now and making the argument that SB 253 will undermine the California economy. He needs to hear from the Climate Tech community - solution providers and funders - that you have his back and that SB 253 will not only benefit California but will ensure it is the center of the global climate economy.
