SF Bay Climate Tech: May 8 - May 15
A climate happy hour, Congolese film, energy scholarships, climate performance, and more events this week

Start off the week tomorrow at the Climate Tech Happy Hour at the Sycamore in the Mission. On Wednesday, head to Oakland to learn about the Young Professionals in Energy Scholarship program at Arthur Mac’s or hear from Congolese filmmaker Petna Ndaliko Katondolo at MetWest High School. On Thursday, go back to SF for the Business Environmental Awards Celebration or check out the Zero Waste Symposium in the North Bay. On Friday and Saturday nights, expand your horizons with Climate Parables in SF, a performance combining live journalism, science and technology, fiction and nonfiction, video, art, and music. Finally, round out the week with an EV event on Saturday in Palo Alto.

⚖️ From Congo to Oakland: Connecting for Climate Justice

Petna is also an awarded filmmaker, activist, and educator. His multi-genre artistic works are acclaimed for their decolonial Africanfuturistic artistic style, which engages historical content to address contemporary sociopolitical and cultural issues. For his newest film, Petna is partnering with Indigenous leaders deep in the Congo Basin who are organizing to protect the world's second-largest rainforest against accelerated attacks from extractive industries that threaten our collective future.
♻️ North Bay Zero Waste Symposium

The North Bay Zero Waste Symposium engages community stakeholders by showcasing zero waste policies, programs and infrastructure that design waste out of the system wherever possible and divert discarded materials through composting, reclaiming, reducing, reusing, and recycling. We can eliminate waste in the North Bay with the participation of all residents and businesses. Together, it is possible to be a model for the rest of the community and beyond.
🏆 Business Environmental Awards Celebration Event

On May 11, we will gather in-person to celebrate and show our deep appreciation to the community that has emerged around Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards. This community includes everyone — including awardees and applicants, judges and Advisory Committee members, corporate sponsors and organizational partners, and longtime community members — who has supported this Awards program over the past 32 years.

So, join us for an unforgettable evening of live journalism, science and technology, fiction and nonfiction, video, art, and music. Anthropocene Magazine (a publication of Future Earth) has teamed up with The Long Now Foundation and Back Pocket Media to take the magazine’s acclaimed fiction series “The Climate Parables,” from the page to the stage. This event is happening twice: Friday May 12th & Saturday May 13th. There is one show each night: doors are at 7:00pm and the show starts at 8:00pm!
🚗 Goodbye Gas, Hello EVs!

Oh the places you will go — in your new EV! We’ll cover the basics of EV ownership and give you the scoop on rebates, including recent changes to the Federal Tax Credit. We’ll also highlight currently available and exciting new models coming out this year. Current owners will display their EVs and answer questions in the parking lot after the presentation.
