Postcards from the future, trash to treasure, and energy hot topics in the park!
Hi friends,
While the rest of the country suffers from record 100F+ heat in the dog days of summer, the famous Mark Twain quote continues to ring true for us: βThe coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.β We hope everyone is out and about and enjoying the climate events across the Bay!

Event Details
πΊοΈ Hybrid Stanislaus County Zero Waste Workshop Series
When: Mon, Jul 31st from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Where: 417 North 7th Street, Modesto, CA
Stanislaus County is home to 1 of the two incinerators in the state. Currently they burn up to 700 lbs of trash every day and pollute our natural resources like our air, and our soil and potentially our water via ashes. As advocates for a more sustainable future, we urge the Stan county to reconsider renewing the contract with the Covanta Incinerator or to contract with any waste to energy facility that releases pollution into our natural resources once the contract expires in 2027, and that we instead funds are allocated towards more sustainable practices that don't pose negative impacts to our environment and public health, and that generate more jobs, as many zero-waste plans have shown.
π Nature Nerds
When: Mon, Jul 31st from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM
Where: find out farms, 4712 Parker Avenue, Sacramento, CA
Like learning about nature and don't mind the occasional swear word? Come learn about bats, microbes in flowers, and native plant aromas!
π The Living City: Restoring Life in Downtown San Francisco by Improving the Public Realm
When: Tue, Aug 1st from 12:30 to 1:30 PM
Where: SPUR Urban Center, 654 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94105
With remote work becoming a norm following the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional office-centric landscape of downtown San Francisco needs to adapt. As we start to envision a post-pandemic future, there is a unique opportunity to breathe new life into this urban center. By embracing urban design principles that prioritize community engagement, walkability, inclusivity, and small businesses, the city can create a downtown that is attractive to residents and visitors and supportive of the local community.
π
Augmented Reality Tour: Postcards from the Future, San Francisco 2123
When: Wed, Aug 2nd from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Postcards from the Future, San Francisco 2123 is an interactive Augmented Reality installation that addresses these questions and invites the public to explore the past, present, and potential future transformations of San Franciscoβs Embarcadero waterfront. Postcards from the Future, San Francisco 2123 speculates on how San Francisco can develop a long-term planning framework that supports climate change resilience and biodiversity in a win-win strategy that increases the role of nature-based solutions that embrace tidal ecologies in urban environments.
