♻️ Zero Waste Week Mixer and Kick-off!

This is an event for Zero Waste Enthusiasts to come together to mix and mingle. This mixer is an opportunity to get to know the host organizations and upcoming events for Zero Waste Week. Attendees will also be able to check out Sonoma Clean Power’s Advanced Energy Center and learn about programs to help residents reduce energy use and make clean energy upgrades. There will also be a trivia game with fun prizes.
🗑️ Plastic Free South Berkeley: Neighborhood Clean Up & #BreakFreeFromPlastic

Who is responsible for the plastic pollution in your neighborhood? For six years the #BreakFreeFromPlastic movement has been compiling data on which companies produce the plastic litter found in our neighborhoods, environment, and watersheds and collected from community members like you. At the end of each year this information is compiled into a global report and has been used to hold plastic producing companies accountable. Join the Ecology Center in taking part in this movement by cleaning up and auditing litter in South Berkeley!

This monthly mixer is designed as a fun and welcoming monthly mixer where folks interested in racial justice, sustainability and healthy communities can meet. People over Plastic is a media platform that centers on the intersection between environmental and racial justice. We have a nonprofit newsroom and we also produce live events that we call storytelling salons. Our organization features compelling stories of Black Indigenous People Of Color communities who are fighting for their homes, health, and environment.

Join us for a no-cost two hour workshop through the County of San Mateo's Sustainability Academy to learn the basics of starting your own backyard and worm composting systems!Learn how to turn your food scraps, leaves, and plant cuttings into nutrient-rich compost that helps your garden retain moisture, suppress weeds, and prevent soil erosion, while cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
🎲 Understand climate change in 3 hours
When: Sat, Jul 29th from 10:30 AM to 01:30 PM
Where: San Francisco Public Library, 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco, CA
In just 3 hours, 5 to 7 players will work together to connect causes and effects of climate change, learn about the science from the IPCC: the United Nations panel of scientists that has been studying climate change since 1988; and discuss ways to help reduce the effects of climate change. The workshop is in 3 parts: 1. We play the game; 2. Debrief about the game; 3. Open-ended discussion and brainstorming about actions that can be taken to address or adapt to climate change.
