SF Bay Climate Tech: Aug 15 - August 22
Events this week on climate change and health, energy storage, community land trusts, cultivated meat, and more
Hi all,
Start the week off this Wednesday in SF with a talk on climate change and the future of health at Manny’s and a YPE-hosted panel on energy storage at Pattern Energy Group. On Thursday, you’ll have your pick of four events: an event hard-to-abate sectors at the Embarcadero, a session on community land trusts in Oakland, the USGBC Rising Leaders mixer in downtown SF, and an online talk on cultivated meat from USCF. On Saturday, head to the Presidio for the 6th Annual Environmental Justice Summit, an all-day festival with food, talks, and music.
Chart of the Week
This weekend, The New York Times had a spectacular feature story on a coming superstorm that will ravage California if we do not urgently address the climate crisis. This rapid procession of atmospheric rivers will test the state’s infrastructure like no other, and the chance of months-long devastation is alarmingly high.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
The USGBC NCC RLC is a voluntary committee made up of young and emerging professionals in the sustainability field. Members are often younger professionals, but also include members who have changed careers and are newer in the industry. The committee provides a chance for members to network, learn new skills, and find new ways to get involved in the community. The USGBC works to build better buildings, consume fewer resources, and promote sustainability in our daily work.
🥩 Designing the 'Climate-Proof' Food System of the Future Using Cultivated Meat

The main focus of her scientific and entrepreneurial pursuits is the intersection of sustainable food systems and climate science. She is an expert in biotechnology and the alternative protein industry, with deep experience in cell biology, cell line and bioprocess development, tissue engineering, food science, and cultivated meat science.
⚖️ 6th Annual Environmental Justice Summit
When: Sat, August 20 at 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM PDT
Where: Main Parade Lawn, Montgomery Street, San Francisco, CA 94129
ADDING COLOR TO THE GREEN MOVEMENT
The Environmental Justice Summit is a bold platform for representation and activism that elevates and amplifies the voices and power of people of color as leaders in the environmental justice movement. Environmentalism is a movement that impacts all classes, colors, and demographics of society, yet there is a lack of diversity in the environmental movement itself.
At our 6th Annual EnvironmentalJustice Summit, leading BIPOC environmental organizers from the Bay Area and beyond will come together to share experiences and discuss steps to diversify the Green Movement and needs of our vulnerable communities. This will be a free all-ages festival style event that will be accessible to all.

Volunteer
We're excited to grow the Climate Tech community in cities across the globe! What started as an 8-person mid-pandemic outdoor dinner has since morphed into a 1,500+ strong and ever-growing group of rockstars trying to change the world. We're looking for volunteers to help us expand our programming into a full roster of community-wide meetups, subject-specific events, mentorship programs, site visits, and more. We aim to be a community resource - built for and by our community. Share your thoughts and we look forward to working with you!
